FAQs
Why do you cook in my kitchen?
In Massachusetts, most foods that are resold must either be prepared
in a commercially licensed and inspected kitchen, or prepared in the
client's home. By cooking in your kitchen, personal chefs use the same
environment that you use when you cook for your family - so you have
all the assurances of quality.
Are you a caterer?
Yes, and no. A Caterer usually prepares the food offsite and delivers
it to your home or the location of your function. Many personal chefs
also offer catering services, but it does require the use of a commercially
licensed kitchen or that the food be prepared in your home.
How much does it cost?
If your needs can be met by one of my standard
packages, then the current price is listed there, based on the time
it takes me to plan, shop for, prepare and package your meals. If you
need a different quantity of meals, we'll discuss your custom pricing
when we meet. In addition to the service fee, you also pay for the groceries,
and that cost will vary depending on your menu. Just like when you go
to the grocery store, when you want filet mignon and fresh lobster,
your bill will be higher than when you want macaroni and cheese. (It
happens.) You also pay for packaging, which we'll determine when we
meet to discuss your needs. When you figure the time involved for menu
planning and shopping on top of the actual cooking, and you'll see that
you are "buying" much more than just the food itself - you're adding
time back in your life, and the satisfaction of knowing you've got fresh,
delicious homemade meals waiting for your whenever you want them!
When do you do the cooking? Do I need to be there?
Typically I come in during the day while you're at work, school or
busy with other obligations. Often my clients don't even know I've been
there, except for the refrigerator full of good food and wonderful aromas
left behind.
Can you handle special diets?
Absolutely! In some cases an additional fee may apply if there is a
substantial amount of extra work that must be done to research, shop
for or prepare your meals. I frequently cook for clients with food allergies,
sensitivities, diet or other special needs.
Do you do gift certificates?
Absolutely! They make great gifts, especially for those folks who are
tough to buy for. Absolutely no one in this day and age would not appreciate
the gift of time.
Do you do dinner parties?
Schedule permitting, I do small dinner parties and other events.
Can you make special meals for when I have company, to deliver
to a sick friend, for my child's school events etc?
Yes, you can always request any of the above as part
of your regular meal service or as add-ons, schedule permitting.
